NatWest Group is proud to support Armed Forces Day and recognises the many contributions made by those who serve in our Armed Forces. As part of our bank’s purpose, NatWest champions the potential of people, families, and businesses, and support communities across the UK including those who are members of the Armed Forces and their families.
In addition to providing everyday banking needs to customers, NatWest also works with Holt’s -the UK’s only Military Bank which is part of the NatWest Group. As officially appointed military agents since 1809, Holt’s understands how active and demanding military life can be and offers a specialist banking service tailored for Armed Forces members, their families and veterans.
The bank, which has singed the Armed Forces Covenant, is committed to providing specialist support to Armed Forces members, their families and veterans. These measures include:
- Providing financial services and advice to over 35,000 service personnel, families and veterans as well as 900 Regiments, Ships Flotillas, RAF Stations, Military charities, Federations and Trusts;
- Delivering bespoke services and products to all service personnel, from current accounts and premier banking to specialist mortgages or the Armed Forces Terminal Grant Lending Scheme;
- Providing financial education to around 9000 service personnel and military communities through programmes such as MoneySense and Holt’s specialist financial educational programme;
- And supporting new start-up Veterans through NatWest’s Accelerator programmes;
And NatWest’s support for the Armed Services goes beyond customer relationships as NatWest’s staff are very much at the heart of it. NatWest was re-awarded the Ministry of Defence Gold Employer Status in 2021 in recognition of all that NatWest Group does in support of the wider Military Community.
The bank has an internal network for employees for those who are connected with the Armed Forces. The Armed Forces Network was established in 2015 and provides support to reservists, veterans and service family members employed by the bank. It has grown and is now recognised as critical as part of the bank’s inclusion ambitions and strategy by actively guiding the organisation in all related military matters. Originally with a membership of eight, it now has over 500 active participants. And a member of NatWest’s Executive Board also sponsors the network and advocates on its behalf.
The Armed Forces Network Committee has appointed a Forces Family lead ensuring advocacy and strengthened representation for military employees across NatWest. The Forces Family lead is responsible for embedding the understanding of the unique challenges faced by families involved with the Armed Service.
Other activity has included external engagement through our Defence Relationship Manager and Career Transition Partnership to support the Forces Family Jobs portal. The bank also participated in Business In The Community’s “Capitalising on Military Talent” which enabled NatWest to attract and promote the skillsets Forces Family members bring to the workplace.
