Running order for VE Day celebration

The Scarborough branch of the Royal British Legion has announced two events as part of its activities to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

The organisation is a key part of Scarborough Armed Forces Day. On 8 May, join us for a shared moment of celebration at the Garden of Remembrance, Alma Square, at 11am. Then, on 10 May, commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day with an anniversary concert led by RBL Scarborough, featuring an impressive lineup of talent. The concert will be held from 7pm to 9pm at The Summit, 4 St Nicholas Street, Scarborough, YO11 2HF.

The running order for the shared moment of celebration on 8 May is:

  • from 10.45am, arrival of participants, invitees and community, including standard bearers, veterans, Women’s Institute, cadets and school children
  • Town Crier makes the VE Day crip
  • Parade of Standards
  • Words of welcome
  • Prayers
  • Historical reflection – extract from Sir Winston Churchill’s VE Day speech
  • I vow to thee my country – spoken words
  • Laying of wreaths, including those made in a school project
  • Acts of remembrance
  • Hymn
  • Final blessing
  • The National Anthem
  • Town Crier- three cheers for His Majesty the King
