Scarborough Armed Forces Day is one of 130 to receive Ministry of Defence (MOD) funding to help host the celebrations on 27 June.
The grants come as part of the MOD’s work to boost the number of events taking place this year in line with the Strategic Defence Review’s call to reconnect communities with the military, and to encourage a whole-of-society approach to defence.
Events planned for 2026 include major city gatherings, community sports days and large-scale civic celebrations such as those in Manchester and Portsmouth.
Scarborough is proud to be hosting another Armed Forces Day, with displays from the RAF Tutor, RAF Typhoon, Hawker Fury, and Calidus Auto Gyro. The event will also have performances from The Royal Hospital Chelsea Pensioners Pace Stick Team, the East Riding Pipe Band, and Scarborough Sea Cadet continuity display drill team.
This year, the MOD received 130 successful applications for grants, a 50% increase in funded events compared to last year. There have also been more than 230 events have been added to the national map on the Armed Forces Day website, 14% more than in 2025.
